By the end of the course the students will be able to identify bonding disruptions and know how to repair the bonding problem using hypnosis, EMDR, or some other imaginal process.

Many
problems that children suffer originate in bonding disruptions. These disruptions, surprisingly, can be
mended and the results are immediately noticeable.

Tony Madrid, Ph.D., has been working in the area of maternal-infant bonding for 30 years. He has conducted several studies which link pediatric asthma to bonding disruptions, and he has demonstrated that asthma can be alleviated by repairing these disruptions. In 2006, his article about this treatment of asthma was given the Hilgard Award for scientific writings in the area of hypnosis for children and adolescents.
He has taught hypnosis at the University of San Francisco and to professional groups since 1977. He has written several articles in the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis about the uses of hypnosis in treating physical problems, including asthma.
Dr. Madrid has recently co-authored an article with Francine Shapiro, Ph.D., on the uses of EMDR in repairing bonding disruptions, and he has authored a chapter in Dr. Shapiro’s new book on family therapy and EMDR.
Outline of course

The theories of Klaus and Kennell centering on early physical and emotional contact between mother and their babies have led to significant changes in maternal-infant care in obstetrical wards and birthing centers. Nonetheless, mothers and children are still separated intentionally and accidentally; and when that happens, bonding problems often arise.
Participants will learn how to screen for bonding problems and find their causes. Once found, these causes can be remediated and a mother can get bonded to her child. Hypnotic techniques and EMDR protocols will be learned. No previous knowledge of or experience with hypnosis is needed. Participants will learn enough by the end of this class to fix disrupted bonding.
The class
will consist of didactic material, demonstrations, videos, and practice sessions.
